TAEKWON-DO

Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art design for unarmed self defense purpose. It is an extremely effective self defense system that requires an intensive physical and psychological training.

However being an effective self defense, Taekwon-Do is linked to very strict moral guidelines to insure the practitionner does not misuse his skills.

HISTORY:

Taekwon-Do was founded by Gen. Choi Hong Hi in 1955. in 1966, The International Taekwon-Do Federation was founded.
Gen. Choi Hong Hi passed away in 2002 but his legacy is kept alive by the tremendous work done by the Grand Masters, Masters, Instructors and numerous Black Belt holders around the world.

TENETS:

Taekwon-Do's philosophy can be resumed in 5 moral tenets:

  • Courtesy
  • Integrity
  • Perseverence
  • Self Control
  • Indomitable Spirit

Those tenets are linked to an oath that practitionners are binded to.

  • - I shall observe the tenets of Taekwon-Do
  • - I shal respect my Instructors and Seniors
  • - I shall never misuse Taekwon-Do
  • - I shall become a champion of freedom and justice
  • - I shall build a more peaceful world

TECHNIQUE:

Taekwon-Do has 5 aspects :

- Basic techniques:
Includes all the hand and foot techniques
The ABC of Taekwon-Do

- Patterns (In Korean Tul):
They are imaginary choreographed fights again a single or multiple opponents.
They can be considered as the The dictionary of Taekwon-Do. They are the core of the art.

- Sparring:
Can be divided into 4 parts:
3, 2 and 1 step sparring as well as free sparring

- Hosin Sul:
The self defense aspect of the art.

Competition:

Taekwon-Do's competition is varied and very exciting to watch.
Several comeptitions are organised each year for senior and junior color belts as well as for black belts.
Competition has 5 different areas with categories of belts hight or weight.
